We Started Because We Were Frustrated

Frustrated by contractors who disappeared. By designers who prioritized aesthetics over livability. By an industry that treated homes like assembly lines.

How Whispering Hill Began

In 2009, Sarah Mitchell was renovating her first property—a Victorian terrace in Bristol with good bones and terrible execution from decades of quick fixes. She hired three different contractors. All three vanished mid-project.

So she taught herself. Plasterwork. Carpentry. The art of matching historic molding profiles. What started as necessity became obsession.

By 2011, friends were asking her to consult on their projects. By 2013, she had a waiting list. By 2015, Whispering Hill was a full team of craftspeople who shared her frustration with how homes were being treated.

What We Believe

Homes Have Memory

Every house carries the decisions of previous occupants. We respect that history while creating space for your future. Sometimes that means preservation. Sometimes it means strategic erasure.

Function Defines Form

A beautiful kitchen that doesn't accommodate your cooking style is a failure. We design around how you actually live, not how design magazines suggest you should.

Honest Materials

We use materials that age well and can be repaired. Solid wood over veneer. Lime plaster over acrylic. Quality that compounds rather than degrades.

Transparent Process

You'll never wonder what we're doing or why. Every decision has a reason, and we'll explain it in language that doesn't require a construction degree.

How We're Different

We Don't Upsell

If your project doesn't need something, we won't suggest it. Profit is important, but not at the expense of your trust.

We Protect Your Home

Dust barriers. Floor protection. Daily cleanup. Your home remains livable during the work, not a construction disaster zone.

We Stand Behind Our Work

Something not quite right six months later? We fix it. No arguments about warranty technicalities.

We Communicate Constantly

Weekly updates minimum. Daily photos if you want them. You'll never wonder what's happening with your project.
